FMST in Beijing Olympic Games 2008

The most amazing achievement to the military shooting team this year occured 19.12.2007 when Kai Jahnsson and Henri Häkkinen were nominated to the finnish olympic team in Beijing 2008.

The previous finnish military representative in the olympic shooting was Rauno Bies in Los Angeles 1984. He gained olympic bronze in olympic rapid-fire pistol (591).

The other finns in Beijing 2008 (so far) are Hanna Etula (rifle), Juha Hirvi (rifle), Marjo Yli-Kiikka (rifle), Mira Nevansuu (pistol), Marjut Heinonen (skeet) and Satu Mäkelä-Nummela (trap)

FMST (manning) in 4th CISM Military World Games in Hyderabad, India 13.-22.10.2007

Kari Pennanen, Kimmo Tulonen, Jussi Puustinen and Henri Häkkinen gained silver medals in rapid fire rifle team.
Best individuals of all FMST shooters were Jussi Puustinen (4./military rapid fire rifle 562, 1 point behind bronze and 2 behind silver),
Kai Jahnsson (10./centre fire pistol 584, 1 point behind bronze) and Helena Juppala (9./3-position 50m).
In rapid fire rifle team match Kimmo Tulonen shot mighty good 565 points.

FMST in NMSC Boden, Sweden 6.-10.8.2007
Helena Valtonen, Henri Häkkinen and Kai Jahnsson took individual medals in the Nordic Military Shooting Championships in Boden Sweden this week.
The best finnsh team was field shooting pistol team, Jari Javarus, Antti Jokinen, Pekka Vaarala, Marko Räsänen and Petri Ylinen, which chased a mighty gold medal.

FMST in ISSF-EC shooting Las Gabias, Spain July 9.-22.2007
Henri Häkkinen took the bronze medal in free rifle (300 m) 3-position match in EC-Spain. Henry did quite well result 398 - 393 -381= 1172.
The other military shooter in the EC-event was Kai Jahnsson who did 555 points in free pistol and gained an olympic quota.
Henri Häkkinen has got another quota for Finland in air rifle last spring. So the Finnish Military Shooting Team has conquered two quotas in to Peking-2008. Great!

FMST Pistol Team in Elva, Estonia 27.-28.4.2007
Kai Jahnsson shot well in Elva, Estonia, in military rapid fire pistol event and did mighty 582 points. Ville Nousiainen got 574, Harri Huttunen 556 and Keimo Korpioksa 555.

FMST Expeditionary Force in Plzen CISM Regional 23.--27.4.2007
The FMST gained two silver team medal in Plzen regional and Kari Pennanen gained a bronze medal in the military rapid fire rifle event.
In the meanwhile Henri Häkkinen and Jussi Puustinen were on the way to Sydney ISSG World Cup. And a part of pistol team was heading to Elva, Estonia to participate Heli Rassi Games.
Further, rifle coach Matti Viljakainen was visiting GE-factory on his swiss-holiday. And quess, what more: ex-rifle coach Ari Lähdesmäki visited the team in Plzen while he was on a vacation from Balkan PS-operation. Results of Plzen Regional CISM: Pistol & Rifle

Henri Häkkinen goes Peking
The outstanding finnish military shooter Henri Häkkinen did quite a job when taking the ECH-silver medal in air rifle (596+103,7).
Besides the medal he earned a olympic quota for Finland. Congratulations!

Henri Häkkinen as a military athlete of year 2006
Henri Häkkinen was named as the military athlete of the year 2006 due to his CISM champion in military rapid fire rifle and many other excellent performance last year.
Henri seemed to be very proud of his appointment but without loosing spare time he was heading to Munich air rifle world cup 24.-28.1.2007.
His shooting goes still well and he did 597 points in air rifle event being the best in the primary phase.
In the final he shot 102,8 (total 699,8) and had to admit that there are some other good shooters as well.
The winner of the event was Zoltan Balaz (SLO) by 701,1 (597+104,1). More about Häkkinen here and there!

SnLt Jarmo Hokkanen was awarded due to his many years as a pistol coach. Jarmo is retiring from military shooting team and concentrating to national shooting team.
On the right Henri and the traditional best athlete's plate made by Eino Kohvakka, the very famous finnish pistol shooter both in national and military team in 1970s and 1980s.


Kai Jahnsson did a superb performances in the Swedish Cup in Sävsjö, Sweden 3.-6.1.2007 by shooting 576 and 579 in air pistol events. Further information here.
